Each field has a default font, size, and style: all text entered into the field will have the default attributes until you select parts of the text and make changes. 

These default characteristics are set by selecting the field with the Field tool, and then choosing either Text Style... from the Edit menu or items from the Font and Style menus. 

When any of the default attributes of a field are changed, any text that possesses the previous default setting for that attribute will be changed to match the new setting.
